Meet Gay lee schumann, ma, lpc

I help adults who feel burned out due to parenting, caregiving or career.

I have been an employee, a supervisor, and I have helped with caregiving for a loved one who was ill. Conflicting emotions are common when you are in a long-term caregiving situation, a challenging work environment or a parent with a plethora of responsibilities.

I began my 27-year career teaching children ages 3-5 years of age with disabilities. I then taught K-4th grade resource, Kindergarten and Pre-K. Later, I became an instructional coach at an all Pre-K campus and then an assistant principal. I spent ten years at an education service center, both as a trainer/consultant and as a program coordinator. I became a fully-licensed therapist in December 2023.

My style

I believe that therapy is an opportunity for clients to re-define themselves…or to define themselves for the first time.

Throughout life, we are often defined by two things: what we do and who approves of us. However, we have value that far exceeds those two definitions. Re-defining ourselves is less about accomplishing more or changing what others think. It is more about changing what we believe about ourselves. The good new is that our own opinion is the one thing that we have full control of! Therapy is an opportunity to challenge old thinking patterns and habits that are in opposition to our true value.

My guiding principles

Client Empowerment

I empower the client with the knowledge that they need to facilitate healing in their lives.

Integrative Approach

I utilize various therapeutic approaches to meet the individual needs of clients.

Treating the Whole

I encourage clients to seek the help of various other professionals, as needed.

The Power of the Pen

I encourage clients to use writing to foster healing and provide strategies that lessen overwhelm.
